Default Overfilled oil bag

2006 Softail Springer...local indie had a special on tires with free installation. We are kind of busy right now but I need a rear very badly and when I dropped it off I asked him to change the oil and filter as well. Normally I would do all that myself, but like I said, we're busy.

When I picked up the bike it was starting to sprinkle and a big storm was on the way so I just fired it up and ran home. Checking things out this morning I noted that the dip stick was showing over a 1/2 quart over full, cold. I took it for a ride, didn't lose any oil and, of course, the oil expanded some.

OK, so my question, before I try to drain just 1/2 a quart from the oil bag, seeing that the engine is a dry sump system, does it really make any difference? On an automotive engine (wet sump) you would be concerned about the crank whipping the oil into foam and starving the top end; is that the same case for the Twin Cam?

You run a bigger risk of blowing some of the oil out of the breathers into the intake. What is the level when it's warm?
If it is too full, get your wife's turkey baster and remove some oil from the tank.

Or a turkey injector syringe.

Yeh the Softails seem to like 3 and a half quarts even though the book says 4.

If you have a Tractor Supply close to you, they have a siphon tool that's very inexpensive that works great for sucking oil out. I made the mistake of over filling my bike the first time I changed oil. I think when I bought it, it was like 10 bucks.

I can't seem to find a link or pic to it. The body of it is a metal tube that holds about 1/2 qt. with a hose on one end and a T handle on the other end that creates suction when you pull on it and expels the liquid when you push it back in. Almost like a huge syringe.

piece of garden hose (or any hose)
stick it in the bag, place finger on top , withdraw hose, release finger when hose is over suitable container.
repeat until level is correct.
Cost ? zero
