Well I bought my bike before Oct 2017 so it's safe to assume I have the **** pump.

My bike was built in 1995. No sumping issues.

Sorry, I couldn’t help it. It was low hanging fruit.

Bwahahaha!! You can get away with it if anyone can.

I don't think anyone should freak out. They don't have 100% answer so they have to cover a wide range. No one reporting problems on Softails. Let's not borrow trouble. Just ride and enjoy.

So all of a sudden they don't know how to make oil pumps? really?

What is going to be worrying is if this turns out to be due to the build and or quality of parts of the M8 engines, which I thought Steve was maybe pointing towards (sorry if I've picked you up wrong there, Steve)

Best to keep an eye on the ongoing discussion over on the M8 forum.

That's the question. And some people have had several thousand trouble free miles before sumping began. That is the part that doesn't make sense to me. Seems it would sump from the get go. So far so good for me. And my guess is the number of bikes involved is small.

I’m going to call dealer, reference the TSB and tell them to perform the procedure the check for the sumping condition. I’m going to have this done at every service interval going forward. Since HD doesn’t know how widespread this is, they can check for me, free of charge, for the life of the bike.

Unless your dealer is doing the work and covering it them self; that's not how TSB work from my experience. If your not having the symptoms the TSB states, I believe they can't bill Harley to get the labor cost to perform. Now I am sure they can lie, but constantly doing it will throw a flag if your doing it every interval. Doesn't seem like a hard check to do. I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms called out in the TSB, but it's pretty easy to pull the crank position sensor. One bolt and pop it out.
