There is a guy that keeps advertising of 2005 saying how much money he spent in options low-mileage he's he's asking like $17,000 for it. He can't figure out why he can't sell it. When you go to buy a used bike buy it just like Harley gives you for a trade in it's only worth so much money and you don't know anything about it.

I just picked up a 2008 Softail crossbones for $9500 with 10, 000 miles on it.
But it was the bike I wanted and I was willing to pay to get it. I fell in love with the bike and it was in immaculate shape. Love the springer front end it has.
There are a lot of really nice used heritages out there . If you can find a low miles heritage get the newest one you can afford or at least get one 2007 and up . That 6 speed on the long days when you are putting in the miles is truly something you should let yourself enjoy . For me it made all the difference in the world in riding comfort.

I can ride all day on my ‘03 Ultra with 5 speed/88. Stage one. Don’t be scared of the 88. Personally I still like the looks from that era, and would prefer a Garage Queen from that era over the newer bikes.
If you had an ‘03 you loved, you’ll probably like an ‘04.

A lot of comes down to location and popularity of a given model. Maybe one can be bought for less in some areas, but then you either need to travel to see/ride it, or take your chances and ship it. Both options increase the cost.
The Heritage is a popular model for all the reasons you stated and more. I'm pretty partial to 'em myself. I've had my Deluxe for a few years now and plan on keeping it till they close the lid on me
If I found something that was older, low miles and super clean, I wouldn't balk at paying a little more. That said, I think you did good walking away from that. It'll increase your bargaining power if you decide to go for it.
Doing your homework and having patience is the ticket to getting the most for your money. Something will come along. It's a buyers market for certain
