Need help on purchase of a Heritage
I am going to look at a 2004 Heritage that has 4,000 miles on it and is totally stock. My question is how much should I pay for it? He is asking 9995. which I think is way over priced.
How much should I pay?
Any flaws in the 2004s that I should look out for?
Thanks!

I wouldn't look at anything older than a 2007. That's when they went to the 6 speed transmission. A nice enhancement when cruising the highway. 2007 and later had some cam and wheel bearing issues and the stators were a known weak point as well. No big deal. I would figure that any bike that you would look at from that generation would have already addressed those issues. It wouldn't hurt to ask the seller about them. I have a 2008 FLSTC with over 70K miles and am on my third (hopefully last) stator and I change my wheel bearings every other tire change. Other than that, the bike has been trouble free.
To answer your question directly, I feel that $10k is way too much for that bike. In my opinion, he either wants you to talk him down or isn't in a hurry to sell. You could probably get a much newer bike for what he is asking.

I paid a little under $8000 for my 05 with around the same mileage as the price he was asking. I think location is key when it comes to purchase price. My 05 is an incredibly clean, one owner bike with lotsa lil chrome accents. I like to think I got a great deal, all the bikes in my area were more money with more miles. I cant comment on the newer 6 speed but I never had a problem with my 5 speed Dyna, ever. My brother tours all over the US on his 2000 with a 5 speed, and no issues there either.
I'll say this, if you absolutely love the bike, she knocked you over when you saw her, then make an offer. Then just make it yours and ride on. Good luck.
