Engine and Security light
I’ve been looking all over for answers and haven’t found it yet. Maybe someone here has had the same problem. I have an 03 night train efi with security. When you turn the ignition on the engine and security come on like normal and I wait the 3-8 seconds till they go off then start my bike. Well recently they go off like normal, but then come back on about 5 seconds after they turn off the first time. After they come back on they stay on for another 5-10 seconds then turn off again. The bike seems to be running fine. The only other weird thing is a couple times when I’ve been riding it the speedo will go from the speed I’m going to 0 then back to the speed I’m going. The bike doesn’t cut out and keeps running normal. I have added a tach and it doesn’t go down when you the speedo does. Any help would be great.
Sounds like it's working on a fault code. You should check and see if you have one yet.
That's exactly how mine behaved when my stator was beginning to fail. I didn't know what it was doing either so I kept riding and then one day the light came on and stayed on. Unfortunately I was half way to Sturgis when it did..

The lights going out like normal and then coming back on indicates that a historic code has been stored.
It would be worth doing a search on the forum to see how to retrieve the codes as you may be able to gather some more information about what originally caused it to generate the code.Keep a note of any code and then clear the code and see if it comes back, particularly if it happens on a ride when you have your speedo issue as it may be related to that.
Regards the speedo dropping out, it can't hurt to remove the vehicle speed sensor from the top of the transmission and make sure it is clean and then see how things go from there.
