I have a 1988 Heritage as well. The part number for the speedo trip reset **** is 21-0853B-PB.

The part is inexpensive. Shipping it to you will cost more than the part.

Thanks Bone Doc!

Does the screw actually hold the **** in place I have the **** and screw but the screw is so small it goes right through the **** not holding it in place. I would assume at one point the **** had a stopper so the screw doesn't go through?

Yes, the screw holds the **** in place. You can find (or make) a flat washer that will fit inside the **** and keep the screw secure in the ****.
