Default Neutral

Hey guy just got a 2014 softail slim and was riding it for the first time and getting it into neutral is a bitch almost impossible. So things like holding in the clutch most of the time made my ride short because my hands are not in shape yet. Is there anything I can do to make that shift into neutral easier? Thanks

Since you said that it was your first time riding it, my suggestion would be, do more riding and with it comes experience that will make shifting and finding neutral much easier.

One thing that helps is hitting neutral just before the bike come to a stop. If you make the shift with the rear tire still moving it is easier to find neutral on a lot of bikes.

Is it cable or hydraulic clutch? If cable make sure the clutch is adjusted correctly. If hydraulic I don't think there is much you can do in the way of adjusting (never owned one so someone may correct me). If the hydraulic clutch needs bled it can make them not fully release.

The two most likely causes are either too much fluid in the primary or the clutch needs to be adjusted.

My 2018 Heritage was giving me hard time finding neutral. I began dropping into neutral from 2nd as I approached stop lights. It has become easier now, even from 1st. Is it me or the trans? I don't know, but it seem to work much easier now.

Except for when I first got it, my 07 has always been hard to get in neutral. I finally started putting it in neutral after I shut the engine off. The shift on a roll does help. But, about 6 moths ago I had a new drive belt put on it and of course they had to pull everything off the left side. Well, the tech that adjusted clutch did a perfect job. I can now get it in neutral like I could when I first got the bike.

Hitting neutral is a common complaint and it appears to be caused by the force that the Clutch drag puts on the transmission. I don't recommend spending a bunch of money chasing that perfect clutch adjustment though..

I've got the same bike and had this issue when I first got it. I adjusted the clutch cable and it made all the difference. Now I can slip it into neutral with ease.
