Question 2004 Softail Deuce is lifeless

2004 HD Deuce is seemingly dead. When I turn the ignition, NOTHING comes to life. No lights at all, no fuel pump, no click, no start. This has happened 2xs before and the problem seemed to fix itself. No signs whatsoever that this was a problem that was going to happen sooner or later. Everything worked fine 1 minute then completely dead the next minute. Battery has been on tender and is above 80% charged. I changed out the relays and all fuses are in working condition. Any ideas?

I would suggest the same, check the cables at the battery in particular the ground cable.

Check to make sure the nut on the starter where the battery positive cable is attached to is tight.
Power from the battery passes through this connection on the way to the fuse box.
It's under that duck bill shaped rubber cover.

I agree to check all the battery connections... positive connections and especially grounds....

My 2003 Heritage has had slow, labored starting symptoms a few of times over the years....

First time, I replaced the 6 yr old OEM battery and it didn't fix the problem.... I then found the negative battery cable, where it screws into the frame, by the front of the seat, was loose... Not sure if you have the same connection on a Deuce...

It's happened 2 more times since, and each time it was that particular connection getting loose... I put a new star, lock washer on it every time I need to tighten it... and yet it still works its way loose over time...

Go figure..

Try cleaning your ignition switch connections.

Before you try to chase the problem down, make sure the battery is fully charged and in good working condition.

Charge the battery and have it load tested, while the battery is out clean all cables both ends and their connection points.

After this you are ready to troubleshoot.

80% charged would be less than 10 volts. That battery is shot.
