Default Awful gas mileage

2010 Fat Boy Lo.. Only 120 miles per tank, mostly stock, except for breather and short shot exhaust. My friends bike, where should he start? Also backfires out the pipes on decell.

120 miles per tank - like it’s dead empty after 120 miles, or the low fuel light comes on at 120. The low light on my ‘06 usually comes about 130, but it only takes about 3 gal at that point. Decel pop, you can tune it out with a tuner, or run mufflers.

He needs to calculate the actual fuel mileage, just saying 120 miles to a tank leaves a few variables open. Then there's mhis riding style. Getting some of the loudest pipes possible means he likes to hear it, so using a lot of WOT is tempting.
With short shots, breather and no tuner it's no wonder he gets decel pop. Getting the bike tuned properly can help cure that and may also help with fuel economy.

I agree with Nevil. After I did the Stage 2 on my TC88, she had a canned map from Fuel Moto, the map was ok at best, but after a true Dyno tune my fuel mileage jumped to 50+ MPG, but my driving differs from most, I'm more of low and slow backroads cruiser. Get her tuned.

Decell pop does not always mean out of tune. I run a Mikuni carb with tru-duels and TTI;s and I like the decell popping. You can control it depending on what gear you drop it into and what speed.

Bike doesn't have a carb, when he bought it 2 years ago, he would ride about 180/190 miles before fill-up, now he's under quarter tank at 120...don't know his mpg. 5 gallon tank
