Question 85 fxst dash panel issue

Hi to All.

Due to faulty bulb connectors on the stock dash base panel, I opted to replace with a Bikers Choice 5 bulb panel.

The removal of the panel and the Speedo were pretty straight forward, but the install of the new base panel is very problematic and I don’t know why since nothing changed. It seems like the panel is stamped exactly like the stock part, but I cannot get it to sit properly on the tanks with the speedo in place. I also replaced the ignition switch, but the bottom line is it’s like the switch end of the base panel is too low into area between the tanks and the switch doesn’t sit just right inside the hole and drags when turned.

If I finally get things lined up for the switch by using shims that were in the kit, and the panel sits closer to the tank, but try installing the speedo and everything goes south again. It’s like the speedo cannot fit properly in the hole of the dash housing, yet I have the same problem when attempting to use the stock speedo or a new speedo from J&P. I DON’T GET IT!

The new base panel did not come with instructions, but again it seems pretty self explanatory, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Anyhow, I would truly appreciate others suggestions or the wisdom that I must be lacking.

I will say the stock parts all fit fine when it comes to sitting on tank, the switch didn’t drag and the speedo all lined up as well, but I was forced to replace the base panel to resolve the bulb socket connection issues.

thank you in advance.

Wink Issue Resolved

I fount the aftermarket post for the dash panel were about 1/4” shorter than the stock parts. FORTUNATELY, I had not emptied the trash yet! I was able to use the stock sleeves and everything lined up properly.
