I have a 99 Heritage. I've gathered up some spare tins that I'll need to paint. The stock tanks have decals on them under the clear coat. I'd like to put actual tank badges on the repainted tanks. I put a set of 62 FLH badges on my ElectraGlide and liked the looks, so I bought a second set for the Heritage only to find the radius of the tank was so different the badges wouldn't fit. Has anyone successfully put badges on split tanks? What will work?
I had those badges on my 1997 Wide Glide years ago. You just have to slide them around until you find the right spot that the curve on the badge fits the curve of the tank. Later Shovel badges (1970) are more flexible and can be bent to fit your tank. The Panhead badges posted above are similar, can be bent a little to match. Good luck.
Yeah but your 05 doesn't have split tanks, so the curvature is different
True, but I have split tank emblems on a one piece tank, however the gent that put them on said he had to "shape" them to fit the tank curvature. The script ones should be fairly easy to do (that's what mine are) but the badge type ones would be more difficult. If you have ever watched someone shape metal with a rubber mallet and a sand bag you would get the gist of how its done. Not simple but certainly doable as long as they aren't plastic.

That's a valid point, but the ones I have are a two piece deal, a base that attaches to the tank and another that screws to it. Getting both bent to fit would be problematic at best. Better to have a one piece deal that's flexible. I haven't seen a script badge in person, I'll look into it. Thanks for your help
The emblems I used were the two-piece types. I did have to 'shape' or bend them
to fit appropriately. It wasn't really that hard to do going slow and many trial-fittings.
Here's a pic.

Mine "appear" to be two piece, a base plate and then the Harley Davidson with the large V in the middle, which appear to be screwed on.
