Default Crank Case Breather Question

Greetings,

I'm having trouble finding a crankcase breather kit that will work with the K&N 90 degree Performance air cleaner. It doesn't have to be the K&N, just that style of breather setup shown below. If anyone is using something similar that works, please let me know. (I have a 2009 Heritage)

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this type of setup will work with that backing plate, but this is what I recently built up on my '07 Ultra.
There's a mounting bracket behind the air cleaner that supports the catch can that is not shown...

You can make your own to work with that back plate. I have done several, with a similar back plate, but not that exact one....

I drill & tap a fitting in the "barrel" of the back plate, marked with the red arrows. This fitting will allow the bypass form the breathers to vent outside the air cleaner. Make sure on the left side (as you face the back plate) you put the fitting so it doesn't interfere with the electronics on the left side of the throttle body...

You can then run vacuum hoses downward to wherever you want... including dumping into the atmosphere or going to a catch can.

You then need to block the passages from the "barrels" of the backing plate to the intake... there will be two. I believe the ones on your pictured backing plate, I marked with blue arrows.. Some just plug them with JB Weld. I like to drill/tap them, insert set screw with red loctite... I will also sometimes put a smear of JB weld on top of that.. By blocking those passages, you will redirect all the bypass gases to your external hoses and no bypass will be ingested by the intake.

DK Customs sells some kts as systems or just custom DIY with all the parts/pieces... or you can just get them yourself...

Heres a pic of one I did to an S&S air cleaner... different backing plate, but same theory...

Here's one I did to an SE air cleaner system. Different backing plate but same theory..

Good luck with your mod...

I wanted to use stainless steel fittings and braided hose with chrome connectors, so I put my own kit together. That backing plate looks similar to the Ness Big Sucker plate on my Rocker, which I drilled and tapped like hattitude explained. I didnt want a hose running down to a filter, so I went with the chrome catch can for a cleaner look.

You'll have to do what Rocker did, drill and tap your own and plug the small holes in the filter backplate.
There's no stress there so use brass barb fittings so it doesn't react with the aluminum backplate.

I used Fragola A/N fittings & braided stainless hose.
Here's a (bad) old pic.

Wow, yeah.....very clean mods you guys have done....looks great! Thank you everyone for the suggestions, I think the way to go for my application would be to drill and tap the back plate.

Check out DK customs they’ve got some parts for crank vents, and what not.
