I always use both, but apparently I didn't apply enough of the front brake in this instance. Luckily I didn't get dumped.

Any time you hear someone's brakes locked up behind you it will test your heart rate! There are fewer situations that give a totally helpless feeling. I learned long ago to always have an 'out' planned, watch for the unexpected, and alwaysproceed as if you're invisible tothe cagers.

I had to make a quick stop once and hit too much rear break and had the same experience. Now I try to remember to use more front break. But I didn't know you are supposed to keep the rear break locked once it locks. That seems counter intuitive. A friend in front of me last week did the same thing I did. He let off the break till it started rolling, then hit it again. It wasn't the most graceful stop, a lot of screech and a lot of burnt rubber. His wife was on the back and she wasn't very happy. I have to admit my Yamaha V-Star 1100 had a much better front break. You just had to apply a little pressure to stop the bike. My HD Deluxe requires a major effort on the front break to stop it. I know the Deluxe is heavier but that still doesn't excuse the lack of a good front break.

There was one time thatI locked the front brakes for a good 5ft. This old lady on a 45 mile road made a complete stop to get on the left lane WTF!!!!!!! Got home and the wife said to me why do you look so pale from your face?

changed to PM brakes for the front and rear and have yet to lock up the rear. With stock Harley brakes on my 07 fatboy I was itching for trouble.. locked the rear up more than I like too.

spendy but worth it in my opinion
have a 4 piston differential in the rear
and a 6 piston differential bore in the front (good enough for a fully loaded bagger and then some)

Vertigo that is exactly what I have planned for my Fatty. I already have the 6 caliper front and it will be going on when my new front end arrives. You've pretty much talked me into getting the 4 caliper rear ASAP! I also have some HD floating discs on the way.
