Hi....My 2018 fxfbs is having real problems with the speedometer fogging up. zSo much so that I'm struggling to even read it. Warranty company's it's water egress and that's not covered. Anyone else had similar issues. I know there's an updated part number....has that solved the prob
lem?
Fogging of the HD instruments is common ... High humidity and rain are the culprits, of course ... You'll find videos on how to take them apart, reseal etc ... easiest cure is to park it out in the sun
I throw something over the speedo when it’s parked in the sun. My jacket if I’m wearing one, a bandana, even my gloves. Harley knows about the issue, but unsealed gauges are so much cheaper than gas tight sealed gauges.
I agree that if everyone who has fogging gauges got together, that they’d have just cause for a class action lawsuit as it is well documented that many time the gauges become useless. Honest officer, I couldn’t see my speedo through the fog and moisture and I thought I was below the speed limit.
I actually don’t care any longer, but it reminds me every time it happens the corners that Harley cut and I wonder, what else, beside the ABS actuators have they cheaped out on.
Some have aggressively gone after drilling vent holes. For me, just covering it while it sits seems to work pretty well.
Well good luck. Harley has been working on that since 2004.
I fixed mine by carefully drill a small hole in base. There was just enough room under it for a small nitro prescription pill bottle drilled lid I hot melt glued it over hole.. Filled up that little bottle with those drying pellets you can get for drying flowers and phones.
Already had a battery under console for garage remote. But my old Softail is easy to pull console. It fixed it and I have never recharged it.
I think the issue is at least my old Harley is that existing vent hole in bottom. Mine seemed to fog on humid days with sun on it.
I seen may times coming out from work with the rain water level with rim. I brushed it out so it didn't blow on me. That never seemed to make it fog.

Way earlier than that ... My 1992 FHTCU was always doing that
Even my warranty replacement fogged up when the conditions were just right.
Drill smallest hole or two you can in bottom. 1mm or #60 should do. Stop as soon as drill breaks through. Channel your inner watchmaker, don't be a construction worker, you'll be able to do it.
No more fogging or trouble with speedo over 30,000 miles.
