Default 02 Deuce Starting Issue

Hey,
2002 Deuce was my dads now my sons. Pretty much stock and never had any issues with it. Suddenly it doesn’t want to start when it sits for a couple day. Cranks but nothing. Plugs look fine. Spray a tiny bit of starting fluid in air cleaner area fires right up and runs fine. Any thoughts?

edit: it’s fuel injected.

Carburetor, fuel injected? If it's carbureted then you could have a number of things going on with it. Bad gas, clogged fuel line, fuel filter could need changed, trash in the bowl, just to name a few. I believe I would start by checking all those things out first of all, then go from there. Let us know what you find out bud, good luck 🤞

Not a lot to go on, but here's my wild guess....

Is it a carb bike? And it doesn't start with the enricher pulled out when cold, but starts with starting fluid sprayed into the carb?

If so, it could be fuel related.

When is the last time the carb was cleaned? The vacuum petcock was checked? Any signs of the fuel, aft the petcock in the fuel line, is leaking past the carb (float needle).

It is possible that when it sits for a day, a little fuel leaks out and just cranking will not create enough vacuum to open the vacuum petcock (faulty/dirty), allowing fuel to flow to the carb. When it kicks over on starting fluid, it's enough vacuum to allow for the fuel to flow through the vacuum petcock as needed.

I would check the vacuum petcock (who am I kidding, I always just remove them and replace them with a real petcock, often a Pingel), and the petcock's vacuum line to the carb.

Then I would clean and rebuild (if necessary) the carb...

Again, just my guess based on your report.....

I would look into replacing the corrugated fuel that inside the tank at that age . It might have a crack in it, which is leaking fuel internally .

do you hear the fuel pump come on? if so then check fuel pressure. Could be a leak in the fuel tank pump housing or the fuel line in the tank. Lastly clogged injectors.
