RE: That Harley sound
Cheapest is to remove the stock mufflers and put on after-market slip ons. Or, you can get a whole new set of exhaust pipes. New pipes will either have the two pipes merging into one (2 into 1) or they will keep separate (2 into 2). Generally, 2 into 1s give a bit better performance and have a deeper sound than 2 into 2s. These are just guidelines and there are tons of threads with more information. You also need to consider whether or not you plan to do future modifications to the engine. If so, you might to go with new pipes instead of slip-ons b/c it seems that most people who do more work generally prefer new pipes.

I'm running the 'original' Screamin Eagle 2 mufflers on my FatBoy.
These are the older models (without the crossover pipe), and they gave excellent results when my bike was dyno tuned. They came in a couple models, the 80354-00 that I prefer, and the 80344-00 which are the slash down cut.
Here is a little audio/video I made showing the bike at idle with the SE2 pipes. They have a very healthy tone at idle (but not 'over the top'), and they will bark when you crack open the throttle. They have a very low great sounding tone, without sounding 'tinny' like some of the aftermarket pipes.
The video was made with an older Sony digital camera, with a small built in mic. Because of that it doesn't give you a full appreciation of the tone, but it will give you an idea of how they sound.

RE: That Harley sound
Best advice I can give you is to listen in person to different pipes on an engine like yours before you buy. You really can't IMO pick up the real sound from video. And everyone has their own opinion on what sounds good/loud/quiet. Be careful about throwing down a bunch of money for something you might not be happy with. If you do a search here on the forum you should find tons of info on the subject but as I said nothing beats hearing them yourself.
