when running the air filter exposed, is there any danger to the motor if water gets into the air filter? what would happen?

well i wouldn't want any water getting in my motor. it depends on where you live and ride. where i live its dry 11 months out of the year, arizona, so i could get away with it. but water would first clean your pistons then seize your engine, depending on the amount of water.

 

No problema with Spanish amigo. And yes it is a gran problema with the exposed filter and water. You DO NOT want to ride in the rain with an exposed filter. Others have reported stalling issues and had to tow their rides.

 

i live in puerto rico, here the weather is very variable. one minute is sunny, blink your eyes and it's raining. i really like the exposedAC look, but definitively don't want to hurt the engine. guess i'll have to look for a cover, since don't like the stock football. any recommendations, theAC kit is the SE Stage I.

Actually won't hurt the engine at all in any amount you get from the top of the filter. Side benifits are higher octain, as water slows the fuel burn rate. It will also clean the piston tops if you ride for days in it. Back in the 70s we used water injection in order to increase the ignition timing, get more power and better fuel economy. No ill effects were noted. In the case of your bike if you have a k&n style it will need to be reoiled.

I live in the UK and it rains here alot. I have an exposed filter on one of my bikes (Baron)and its pretty much OK in the rain, even in shortdownpours. If rain gets into the filter its OK as the droplets are so small that they go straight through the carb no problems. The issue comes if the filter gets sodden with water as the rain clogs the filter thus making it run rich and giving you all sorts of problems. The way around this is to keep the filter well oiled and use a sock in the rain. This all helps keep the filter as dry as possible.

Cagao, as you can see in my sig pic, I didn't like the football cover either.I have the stage 1 as well and went with a basic round cover. It opens up the look of the engine more. It's a HD AC cover.
