Fuel Gauge removal?
Ok, I want to replace the fuel gauge on my 07 Night Train with a plain flush mount cap. I know the gauge just pops out but, are there any threads in that hole, will a left hand thread cap fit in there or does it have to be something that will pop back in? Im not at home so I can't look at the tank to see. thanks

Yeah, I knew I was gonna hafta pull the tank to get it off and as bad as I am with a wrench it will probably wind up being a major, several dayordeal. But those damn factory caps are so ugly Im willing to risk it. Just gotta find something to replace the gauge with now.
i just put the flush mounts on my standard 2 weeks ago.the gauge pops st8 out and its easier if you jack up the bike to get to the wire connection under the tank you also need to remove the wires from the connector block ,,,or you must cut them to pull the wires threw the tank [sm=confused06.gif]
You shouldn't have to pull the tank. The wires from the fuel gauge plug in under the tank. They come out directly under the fuel gauge. If you feel your way you should be able to pull them out far enough from under the tank and get to the plug.
As niczumbo says, the plug won't feed up through the tank. You'll either have to cut themor you'll need a special tool to remove the wires from the plug. The end of the wires are crimped into a pin that locks into the plug. If you have the tool you can remove the wires from the plug and then reinstall into the plug if you ever wanted to reuse your old fuel gauge.

The low profile gas gauge install is pretty easy. Toughest part really is getting the wires in correctly on the new plug.
Just disconnect the old plug (located under the tank) and cut it off. If you leave enough wire can always solder them back together for future use.

Thanks for all the advice. I dont think gettin the gauge out and off should be that much of a problem. The real issue will be figuring out what the hell to replace it with.
