Please don't kill me
I'm waiting to finish 3 more car payments before I get my first HD - a Softail Custom. I can't wait.
I told a guy about this at work and he said for a cheaper price, I could getthe Honda sport touring ST1300 ABS with a host of stock items (windshield, bags, etc.) that I will need for my Softail at a cheaper price than a bare bones Softail - and it would be more comfortable for the road trips I'm planning. I laughed at him and said, "but it's not a Harley" and walked away.
He had some good points. Seriously, how would you guys have responded (besides the way I answered him).

resale sucks on almost anything but Harleys. I bought a 2001 sportster in 2003 and paid $6,100 for it, it had 6000k miles on it when I bought it. Sold it last year and bought a used 07 FXSTC with 5,200 miles on it. Sold the sportster for $5,000 after having it for 4.5 years and putting another 16k miles on it. Pretty good deal I'd say... Harley's are expensive up front, but they seem to hold their value a lot better than anything else, and if you really look around you can find someone really hard up for cash...I paid $11,700 for my 07 FXSTC and it looked like it just came off the showroom floor. I could have made money on it the day I bought it.

I could have bought a new HondaACCORD (or an Ultra for that matter)for what I have in my standard, and I know I'll never recoup what I have in it, but life is short and I think you should get what you want.
You can get a good portion back oftheprice you buy your HD for, but all the bling after that is for your enjoyment only.....it'll only bring back about25 cents on the dollar. But that's what's great aboutHarleys.......you have the opportunity to create andmake them your own, something you really can't do with a metric bike.

Just wait. Once you get it, somebody will tell you why a softail is all wrong and you should have bought a dyna or a road king. Of course, he doesn't ride at all and his wife would never let him buy any bike much less a Harley...but he'll know all about why you made a bad decision. You just have to laugh and shake your head.
