Get decent-sized bags, mount them with EZ Brackets, install passenger footboards, and replace the exhaust... your wife/girlfriend will be happy you did!

IMHO, you want as big a bag as you can get, so you can fit stuff in them. You want them to be removable, so you don't have to have them on when you don't need them - options are a good thing.

I got footboards and my wife was really happy and comfortable with them.

And as far as the Softail stock pipes go... what the h@ll were they thinking?!? I have no idea why they decided to put the top pipe over the passenger peg, but it just plain gets hot and uncomfortable for the passenger (plus they melt their shoes).

Think about these additions carefully and make the best decision you can.

I have Willie and Max bags and they are large. I thought about the easy brackets but I like where my turn signals are and I only use the bags a few times a year. for every day use I have www.garageleathers.com swing arm bag. And no the saddle bags don't interfere with the passenger.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the responses. It's good to have first hand experience to rely on before making a purchase.

My wife has no problem as a passenger with where my HD Fatboy saddlebags mount. Mine are on a quick-release setup that came with the bags.

My V&H BSS pipes sit lower than the stock pipes (notice they now go below the passenger peg).

Good deal! Those bags appear to mounted similar (in relation to the position with the fender) to those in the picture I attached with my post. I appreciate all the information I've gotten. I'm trying really hard to not purchase bags and then be dissatisfied with them.

Mine bags are leather pros and have a quick release. Just installed floor boards and the wife loves them. She kept leaving black marks on the pipes when I had the pegs. She is 5' tall and has no problems with comfort. Just my 2 cents.

Legal Larry
I have the same pipes on my 98 and have bags on it. Never had any complaints about the bags being in the way of leg room. I say go ahead
