You nailed it Streeteagle -people confuse "Book hours" with time. A mechanic working an 8 hour shift is expected to complete X number of book hours - not 8, maybe something like 20. (not sure on the bike end of things).

Book hours have nothing to do with the actual time it might take to complete a job - a job booked for 1 hour might take you 10 minutes, or 4 hours.

Try and agree on a fixed price for the job before hand, and then hold them to it even if it took them much longer.

Worked well for me in the past on most stuff, as long as they are not out of the ordinary.

if your looking to get a service manual got mine from http://www.zanottimotor.com/ it was like $45. well worth it imho.

you might get an independent mechanic to agree to something like that - but I don't any dealership would.


5 hours of labor isn't too bad - they charge each replacement/repair as a seperate charge... not run them together.

thank you sir. i'm going to get me one. right away. so i guess the time they are charging me for is right then. By the way, my stealer charges $89 an hour for service.

why don't you find an independent mechanic. mine charges $50/hr. he's a HD trained mechanic and worked for the dealership for 9 yrs before going on his own. he came to me highly regarded by LEOs here in San Antonio.
