Default Heritage Saddlebag questions.

I just purchased a 2006 Heritage Softail FLSTI w/a detachable backrest.
I want to purchase the Heritage Classic bags for it.

1. Can you use the bags with the removable backrest.
2. If you can how far away from the fender does it place the bags.
3. does anyone have pictures from the rear with said set up.

Thanks

Congratulations on your new to you bike!
yes you can install the bags with a detachable backrest.
Here is a pic of my 08 Heritage with bags on so you can see how far they sit from the fender. I don't have the backrest on but that doesn't change anything.

Different bike but same smell. Shown here on my Deluxe with detachable backrest and Deluxe bags. You have around 2 inches of space between the fender and the bag. About 1/8th of an inch from the edge of the backrest post to the lid. May be a lil' different on the Heritage but prolly close to this . . .

Yep. just put them on my 07 this winter, bags may be 3/4 -1 inch out father total, no one else even noticed it and I can really tell they are any wider.
I just went out and measured and for the outside of chrome fender brace to the inside edge of the bages it is 1 1/8 in. so guessament is about 1/2 in wider per side than stock...

Congrats! Heritage Classic bags should work nicely on your ride. Here's my '06 FLSTCI Heritage Classic, which should look the same as your FLSTI only with bags on it. It shows my quick release backrest taken off, as well as the passenger pillon. I also purchased and installed the www.bossbags.com quick release kit for my saddlebags, but the spacing is exactly the same as the factory specs--something I wanted to be sure of.

Here it is all buttoned up:

Awesome guys. Thanks for welcome and the quick replies. All of your bikes look great. I was afraid I wouldn't like how far they sat out. I probably won't use the removable feature that much but didn't want to buy new brackets if I didn't need to.

One more question for you. This bike also has the smaller bullet turn signals in the rear. (I think they are the ones that come on the deluxe) Will that interfer with the bags or will I need to put the stock one back on?

Hmmm, gonna be close. If you look at my Deluxe bags again, there is a cut-out to allow for the bullet taillights. How 'bout some pics of your bike btw?

I saw that. I went to the Harley site and it says that they will not work with the Heritage bags. I guess i'll have some Deluxe turn signals for sale soon.

Here is a very poor photo of the bike taken at night. I need to get some good daytime photos once the sun decides to come back out.

I really, really love that bike! I came really close to buying it instead of my flstc. It was a very comfortable riding position, seat & bars. Plus, one of my favorite pictures on the HD website was this...

I did some playing around with a photo editing program to make some cheaper variations to Harley's vision:

Have fun breaking the bank!

Thanks. That is a shart bike. I can't wait to see what mine looks like with the bags, windshield, crash bars, and light bar attached.
