Is "B" not for night train and why or how did they come up with "B"? N was already used an T but maybe FXSTNT.

Default RE: What exactly is a FLSTC

I have been woundering this for a while now,thanks.

ORIGINAL: billnourse

FL=touring front end
FX=sport bike front end
ST=softail rear
H=touring bike rear
N=nostalgia/deluxe depending on the year
I=fuel injected.
R=Roadking on some models, and Rubbermounted engine on some models
C=Classic
T=touring
U=ultra
WG=wideglide front end
LR=lowrider
D=dyna
There are a lot or varying examples but this will get you started.

If you have an FLSTNI you have a FL(touring frontend) with an ST(softail swingarm) that is a N(Nostaliga if it is an older bike, and Deluxe if it is a new model), and it is I(fuel injected).

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bill

Default RE: what do the letters stand for?

The first letter "F" indicates the bike falls within one of the (now) 3 family groups that have the largest engine (for now the 88 c.i./1450cc). Therefore, all Dynas, Softails, and Touring families begin with F. The second character tells us the size of the front end (L = large, X - sporty, or small). The next character(s) tells us the family group (D = Dyna, ST = Softail, and H or T = Touring). The next character(s) identifies the model within that family (ex: D = Deuce, WG = Wide Glide, X = Street Glide, etc. This is the trickiest part and just takes time to learn...but it can be learned as most letters used make sense). The I on the end simply tells us it is fuel injected...or carburated if there is no letter I.

F = Big engine for the era the bike was made (88 c.i./1450cc)
L = Large front end
ST = Softail family
N = Model identifier (Nostalgia or Deuce in your case)
I = Fuel Injected

Oh, yea, the V-Rod.....

Just to add some more stuff - the FLSTC is a "Heritage Softail Classic", as opposed to the "Heritage Springer Classic"...just wanted to point out there are other "classics" out there and that technically, the name is HSC...

Bill, thanks for answering the question without a smart *** remark from someone that doesn’t know what they’re talking about, but feels they must post on a forum anyway.
