The vent line on the front of the tank might be holding it. Your crossover line if like my 08 will need to be replaced with a longer one to install a lift kit.
There are two rubber bumpers on the frame near the front of the tank that are a tight fit.
I'd remove the quick disconnect fuel line while working on the tank.

Default I will relook.....

1. The vent tube line had sufficient slack.
2. The crossover line was not holding it down and had sufficient slack. I am told that I don't need to replace for only a 2" lift.
3. Are the rubber holders SO TIGHT that even when you heft up with quite a bit of strength (approx. 80-100 lbs.) tank won't move? It just feels weird to me as if it's bolted to the down tube.

Thanks for the advice. I will get back downstairs to the shop and look again underneath for the rubber parts and anything else.

Rodmael, I had the exact same issue with my 2" tank lift. With tremendous of both my wife and me, we could only raise it a little bit. Took it to the dealer, and his mechanic said there is a tie wrap from the speedo cable that is holding the tank down ( Speedo runs off tranny, not off of front wheel like tradional metrics). So I let them do it while I was there. Very frustrating; I thought it was going to be a quick, easy project!

There is no cable going to the speedo... its all electronic. I had no problems lifting mine.. but yes.. it took quite the pull on the tank to come off.
