Question Handlebar shakes between 30-35mph

I have never done this before, riding home this evening, let my hands off the handlebar at speed 30-35mph, handle bar started to shake like crazy, as I speed up pass 40mph, vibration is gone. I tried to do the same thing at 70mph, no vibration at all, tried lower speed under 30mph, no vibration. It seems to shake at certain speed, is it normal? As soon as I put one hand on the handle bar, the vibration is gone instantly. Is it normal? Front tire is almost brand new, 400 miles on it, it was balanced 6 months ago. The wheel bearing is good, no free-play on the front end either, any idea? Thanks! Alex

Even though your tire was balanced 6 months ago, the symptoms sounds like it is out of balance to me.

Buddy just had a similar issue on his Fat Boy on our recent road trip... He checked the same items mentioned above.. nothing wrong.

He had just changed the fork oil prior to the trip and had gone with the Heavy duty Screaming Eagle variety. I am fairly certain that since returning home he has gone back to standard fork oil.. problem resolved.

Just passing along the info..

Good luck...

First is to check the tire pressure. Never had this situation on my bike though.

True but I don't understand why an unbalanced tire will cause low speed wobble not high speed.

Vibration only occurs at 30-35mph without my hands holding the handlebar, even I rest my 2 fingers on one grip, vibration is gone. Like I said, I go over 70mph with both hands off the handlebar, no vibration.
