I just realized I got off topic with my last responce. My bad. he poster was referring to tranny fluid in his primary. For some reason I was thinking Engine oil.

Just throwin it out there.
I check the tranny level with the bike level. I'm home now and just checked the manual. For an '06 softail, it says to use 20-24 oz, but I have penciled in to use ~30 oz.

Thanks again,

Yes, I am checking it with the bike straight up and screwing the stick back in. I then checked it on the stand and it was just about off the stick so it does make a big difference. I filled it to the full line last night and the total oil I put in is about 22 foz, that includes what I put in the other day. The way I see it it must have been near dry. It drops into 1st a little easier and quieter for sure and the upper gears seem to be smoother. I find it hard to believe that I didn't mess it up running it that low, here's hopeing..

Do you check it hot or cold?

I checked the engine oil, has not moved either way in 568miles according to the tripometer.. Primary is right at the bottom of the hole with the bike on the stand. I hope the guy just messed up on the maintenance.

Thanks
Doug
