Default Any running a 160 in the rear help!!!!

Hey everyone,
I just got my dna wheels in and the 150 rear tire was on back order so i ordered the 160 metzeler. Some people on here said that the metzeler would fit not the avon. Well i have it on there and it looks to fit. not even close to the belt. The belt it was i was worried about but the fender is CLOSE on the one side with the belt. So my question is anyone running the 160 on the rear and if so how close is the fender. It is so close that i didnt think it was going to fit till i lowered it to the ground off the jack and shined a flash light up there and it looks better then it did on the jack but still close. I Was thinking it was going to hit the fender strut braces on the back side. but i seem to have a 1/8 inch or a tad more of room. Will i be fine. I will be away from my computer most of the day call me 336-391-1267 i wont keep you long thanks.

That 160 Metz is a narrow 160. I have enough room on my Train to run a 170 Metz if they made one.

The 160 is the recommended no mods required upsize on the Metzler chart.

The Metzler 160 will fit so long as your Fatty is the OEM 150 rear tire size model.

Default Metzeler

I will give my 2 cents. Make sure if you have a radial or bias tire on the front. If you have a radial front tire, its not recommended to use a bias rear tire. It can cause an unusual riding experience, that most people don't like.

Default tire

I have gotten it on there and once i lowered it to the ground it looks a tad better. It is REALLY close though i would say .125 away from my fender or so and i have plenty of room on the other side. Anyone that has a 160 on the rear is it REAL close. i drove it down the road 4 miles and nothing rubbed but i want to be sure. My buddy says they put tires on bikes all the time that are that close just trying to be for sure thanks for the help.

.125", 1/8" aint much.

You may want to read this thread I started yesterday. Have the stock 150 with only a little clearance like you and all was good for 2+ years. Then just the other day I just noticed the tire was rubbing... Yank the heck out of the fender and struts, grab inside the fender and somewhat behind the struts... it will move.

Question

Is there a certain Metzler that you need?
160/60/18? is the size that I want to put on my bike.

I have a 2002 Softail Standard and want to put a Metzeler 160 on the back. Specifically:

METZELER ME880 160/80B-16 REAR
METZELER ME880 MH90-21 FRONT

The bike has a Dunlop D401 150/80 on the back now with what looks like just under a half inch clearance all the way around. So, about 5 mils or .20 inch wider on each side which should leave me a quarter inch. But tight enough that I am doing plenty of research in advance.

Encouraging that yours fit okay (if just barely). Let us know if you have any problems with it.

Default fit

Well i rode it about a 150 miles this weekend 2 up with the gurl and everything went fine. I looked the tire over real good and it looked to me that it never touched. I am still sorta scared about it so i think when i get some time i may take it back off and grind a little on my brake caliper so i can move it over a 1/8 more or so. I will then have to space my pulley out to keep it in the right place. I am running the 160 60 18 out back and the 120 70 21 up front. This is ona 4.25 wheel that may be why it is so close.

That's what I run on my 05.I spaced the fender to the left and put 1/8" fender washers on the right side to move the fender left. Also took a portapower and spread the frame rails a little.I have a good 1/4 or better on the left side without doing any wheel spacing or caliper cutting. With a 18-4.25 wheel you should be able to run a 170-18 Metzler and have left side clearance with no other mods.By the way it took an hour to space the fender.Cheap mod .30$ for the washers.G.
