Has anyone put a sport bike rear tire on their softail? Wondering because of the appearance of a smaller side wall.

I ran a 200/50/17 shinko. It wore out quick! I pushed it and got almost 4 K out of it but by all means it was dead at 3500 miles.

Thumbs up

Yep, I been runnin Shinko ever since the OEM Dunflop wore out. Been gettin around 5500-6000 miles out of 200/50/17. Much better grip in dry and wet riding. A big plus is that with the shorter sidewall it changes the over all gearing just enough that 6th gear is much more useable. Check out bikebandit.com for prices.

I've been running the Avon Cobra 200/55r/17.
Changed one out yesterday after 9k miles, probably could have gone another 1000 miles or so.

your in luck. i just put on the new dunlop roadsmart tire. it has hard center tread and soft sides. so far it handles great and smoother too. i also changed the front to the avon storm

Maybe I wasn't watching my tire pressure as close as I should? My G/F rides with me often as that may play a slight role in the tire life IDK? Mine was shot pretty quick. Soft compound for sure.

That's the one I put on also.
I've got a little over 10k kms/6300miles on it so far and it still looks good.
It was a nice improvement over the stock Dunlop.

the shorter tire makes the gear ratio just right. it changed the speed 3mph at 60 and gives a lot better power range. because i have a thundermax i can adjust the speedometer and have it accurate. i has a metzler 210 50 and it lasted 4700 miles but road great. i am hoping this new dunlop will last 9000. cobra is a little pricey $208, the roadsmart was $144
