Default V&H pipes on 05 Deluxe

I just got an e-mail from the good folks at Vance & Hines after requesting info on which pipes fit the Deluxe model. They told me the following:

To get Any V&H system to fit on the deluxe with factory hard bags you must fabricate a new mount for the bags due to the fact that our pipes mount to the same location as the bags. They both cannot be mounted there. All of our systems are intended to fit with "stock" parts, so unfortunately I cannot confirm that any of our pipes will fit with those aftermarket floorboards. That bracket that the "stock" pegs or your floorboards mount to is eliminated and the pegs or boards are mounted directly to the frame.

This, of course, only applies to Deluxe models with the factory hard bags and the Harley factory rear floorboards.

I have read that you can switch to Heritage Rear Floorboard brackets to use the rear floorboards. Don't have a clue as to what to do about the pipe side hard bag bracket. Yikes!

Hey! I have some V&H exhaust and they did remove the pipe side passenger peg bracket (stock on the Deluxe) to install passenger peg...that was it (same set-up as the Heritage)....As far as the bags...not sure, but I would ask your local HD shop...I've seen a few bikes online here that have both the exhaust and bags..so they do work!
Good Luck!

I have V&H Pro Pipes on my 05 deluxe with no mods. They sent the bracket with the pipes and they bolted right on with no problems.

I have V&H StraightShots as well as factory hard bags. No mods necessary for either one.

I don't see the bracket on the bottom of the hard bags going down and attaching to the muffler bracket. Did you leave them off the bike and only use the upper bag brackets?

Also where do the passenger pegs go on your bike are they in between the pipes as on the stock setup or above the pipes?

Passenger pegs don't need to be moved - I have narrow billet passenger pegs - they're folded up on the pic above. No bracket used - just the two bolts into the fender frame.

Softail

I have the HD bags as well and don't use the lower brackets. They were just too much of pain in the butt to remove when I wanted to give the bike a good cleaning. A lot of people on this forum have removed them as well. I think the upper brackets support the bags fine as long as you don't load them too heavily.

Ok folks, I think I have got it! Take the lower bracket off the pipe side hard bag, leave it off. For pegs either use the direct, smaller bolt on pegs in the upper frame hole or buy the heirtage footboard brackets to fit above the V&H Big Shots. Then everything will work, I believe.

Thanks for your help.
