It gets your attention pretty quick when you stuff it down a gear without using any clutch. Oops!

Taking a wrench with you is an excellent idea. You need to make many clutch adjustments before it's dialed in (the sweet spot) and you'll know when you get to it. It then becomes second nature. But, with much practice it gets allot better. It's the most fun I've had on a bike in over 20 years. Now if my sidecar will only get here, I'll have another new adventure.

I've run a 1978 FLH with a stock 3 speed w/reverse rocker clutch and hand shift, a 1987 FLST with a rocker clutch and hand shift, the same FLST with a LaBriola suicide and jockey shift, and a 2007 Nightster with a LaBriola suicide and a hand/jockey shift.

I guess I'm missing something with the clutch adjustment problems y'all are talking about, though. On the LaBriolas that I have there is only a simple clutch cable adjustment. Actually, the Nightster has no cable adjustment at all, and it isn't necessary. The Sloptail has the usual screw-in at the cable support at the pedal, but that is really only used to set the pedal position while ensuring you don't get it too tight and cause a slipping clutch. After I set the pedal height I've never had to readjust anything.

I did add a small coil spring over the exposed portion of the cable to keep the pedal from flopping too much.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the pedal position... So you don't feel like you're driving a car with a clutch thats biting way to high... On mine I adjusted the clutch rod to lower the position so when I let up I know where it's gonna start grabing.

btw... Good idea with the spring... I'm gonna have to do that... Thanks

All I meant was the pedal height. It looks like I'll be adding a spring to my cable too. Thanks Poco.

Glad y'all like the spring idea. I put it on the Sloptail after going down my drive - 1/4 mile dirt/iron ore & rough as a cob - and having the pedal flop backwards. Made for an interesting first ride!

I have had mine flop backwards on a hard stall a few times. It was fun trying to find it with my foot
