Default 08 Fatboy with a noisy top end - nervous

Just picked up a used 3600 mile FLSTF with the noisiest sewing machine I ever heard. Engine sounds like it has sand in it instead of oil. My dyna topside is much quieter even though the pipes are much louder.

I'm actually a little concerned. But I have only owned one Harley (the Dyna) to compare it to. Gonna take it in for a check up.

I'm hoping this is "normal".

Get some loud pipes and it will be a thing of the past. My guess is te3h dealer will say "they all sound like that." The B version is louder due to the counter balancers.

If it has upgrade cams it's going to make more noise than a stock motor. I put in Andrews 37 cams and it drove me crazy at first, but I have mentaly tuned it out and all is good now.

Has it had any work done to it, cams, heads, etc? If it has it will definitley make more noise. If not it would probably be a good idea to have it checked, just in case.

My bike is stock other than pipes and air cleaner.I don't here any engine noise. It was quiet before I put the pipes on.A buddy has an 01 Road King. When I rode it I heard some top end noise.Really stood out to me.
