Default Cam Noise?

I have a built 2000 1200 (fully ported heads, larger valves 10.75 compression but stock cams) and I am thinking about adding a set of .536 SE cams. My engine builder says not to do it because the bike will sound like a cement mixer after I'm done.
So my question is to anyone that has used these cams is there a big difference in the heard valve train noise over stock, be honest.
I was under the assumption that Harley stopped using hand selected camshafts after 1999. If that's the case then a new set of cams shouldn't make any difference in the sound or at least very little.

I've heard that too. I wonder if it's 'relative' noise? My friend has a '97 1200S. Zero noise on the top end. Really quiet. I ride an '06. AFAIK they all sound like sewing machines.

I'm running .555 cams with Hydrosolid lifters. Yeah, mine is a bit noisier than stock. I hear it worse with a windshield on. I don't see it as a big deal, with earplugs in, I don't notice it

Its part of the HD package lol. Some might disagree with this but, mobile makes my engine more quiet than regular HD oil. It sounds like your building it for performance so why care how loud it is lol...

Not on this forum. If they ask about adding cams they always get told you need $3000 in headwork and other mods for it to do anything. When that is not the case. You may need additional work to reap the full benefit from cams but adding them to a stock motor does increase power.I remember when people in cars ran solid lifters.Made quite a bit of noise and everyone thought it was cool.I say run the cams. You already have the other work done.

The difference in sound comes from the lift, duration and lobe profile. How fast the valves open and close compared to stock. So they will probably be louder but ones I've heard didn't seem much different. jmo

I miss the old days, seems like so many people these days are so involved in making there bike look like something off of TV that performance has slipped to the back seat. JMO
