I did the same thing years ago with my garage door opener. Wired a button into my kitchen cabinets. Works great. I don't think I'd power it up from the bike circuitry though. I'd stay away from there. The batter only needs replaced every three years or so. Nice work.

been there done that. have the heater control also, did the left side so i can keep the throttle on. got a new remote from ebay for about 15 and a switch from radio shack for 4. the remote is in the front of the console and works about 100 ft away. my drive is a uphill so this makes it easy to open and close

Great mod. I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow for the parts and will git-r-done this weekend.

Awesome idea, I wondered how I could rig up the garage door, it's such a pain.

I got my remote wired and tested yesterday (the hardest part, I would have thought! Those leads on the back of the board are *small*.), just waiting on the parts to arrive!

Just a tip - I used smaller gauge wire than the OP did, not sure how he got those thicker wires soldered, but mine seems to work fine, and I used a very small drill bit to drill half-holes on each of the pieces of the box so the wires can have a nice place to exit the remote and it will help prevent the wires from moving at the solder points.

Does anyone have pictures of the board soldered?
