ok im tryin to figure out size apes i need!! im 5'7 and i have an 01' deuce, i wanna use 1-2 in. risers and i wanna keep them at shoulder height or just a little above! any suggestions? thanks
Depends...do you want them with a forward tilt, or in line with the fork tubes? do you have a low slung seat, or a couch? All factors to consider for sure. I'm like 5' 10 or 11, I have a C & C low profile seat, and I run a wild1 12.5 bar thats tilted forward on 1'' risers...and it's perfect for me. Before I bought them, I bent up some wire and tried a bunch of different combos...good luck
Havanacigar is right. No one else can really say what will be comfortable for you. I am 5'9" and run 16"'s too. I had 12.5"'s a long time ago and they were not tallenough for my tastes so I got 16"'s.

Dito on the Dr. reply, I'm 6' runnin 14" apes on a Fatboy Lo with a mustang seat, 1.5" risers and the bars just slightly forward
I just put 14's on my 93 Heritage. I'm 5'-9 w/ stock seat and 1"-1.5" risers (stock). They come right to my shoulders and I have them almost vertical. They're perfect for me.
agree with all the above statements. i do like the idea of getting some wire and bending it at various heights and seeing what works for you. sounds crazy, but some dude posted something up not long ago in the general threads where he used PVC pipe for mock-up. it worked for him, but i think some wire would work a lil better though. or you could sit on the bike, raise your arms to the height you wanna be around and have someone measure the distance between your hands and triple tree and take in consideration the height of the risers you want.
PVC works great. you can esentially mock up a set of bars to dealer specs for about 5 bucks in materials and gives a good representation of not only what it will look like but what it will fit and feel like as well. I was originally going to go "blind" and get 12's since i'm 5'6 but glad i did the mock up and found out that 14's worked perfect for me! welcome to the jungle!
