That's crazy! You must live out towards the western states but where about?
I remember the days when I used to go on DET to Fallon NV and we used to see some things out there but nothing like that.
You still active duty?

I live in Gray, Georgia...about 14 miles NW of Macon, Georgia and 85 miles SE of Atlanta. I retired from the Navy Feb '05 (20 years) and now I have another govt. job (US Postal Service). Was stationed in Norfolk, VA from '95-'97 (USS Hawes FFG-53)
You should see what we call "Cow Ants". They are actually wingless wasps and are orange with black bands. When I was a kid, I stepped on one, barefoot, and I still remember the pain it caused from the sting. Here's a web link of what one looks like: http://lancaster.unl.edu/enviro/pest...wKillerAnt.htm

She looks to be pretty healthy. If youve never been bitten by one, its an experience I wouldent care to go through again. Had one crawl up into my shirt a few years back. When I put it on she got me twice before I flattened her. Severe cramps, fever. Left me feeling like I went the distance in a boxing match and lost to a decision. I hope after you took that pic you gave her the bottom side of your boot!!
my last house got infested with those things....i was sitting on my porch one day and right by my head , there was a huge one!!i am not exagerrating, the body was about the size of a nickel or bigger....scared the crapout of me, got the kids in the house and started killing them as fast as i could....was probably around 30 big ones....my whole porch was full of them....sprayed several times to get rid of them....they are tough, as is a lot of bugs in the desert.........
I hate those things, just killed a few of them today. Raid seems to work pretty good. One of the joys of living in Palm Springs, CA.

I have a ton...if anyone wants some I'll be glad to share.
Every now and then Hubby goes widow hunting with a flash light at night. Only find them in the house once in a while. In So. Cal you just know better then to stick your hand in anyplace they might hide. Funny one of the few spiders that don't scare me. For the most part they are pretty shy....

I had them in S. Cal when I lived there in the 1980's. Had a new home but it was infested, we had to have an exterminator spray to make sure they were kept under control. They can cause nasty bites that kill a lot of tissue. Yuk!
