Well,
I still vote an XBones and maybe a used one, best time to buy it is now, stay away from the dealers, specially in Canada.. but that is just cheap me.

As others mentioned, thank you for your service, I do hold the Canadian Armed Forces in a very high place.

Peace.

changing his vote from the rocker to the fatboy lo, its not a bad looking bike IMO. but still have to see it in person before i make a decision
Choosing between a Xbones and a Lo ... Glad I'm not in your shoes! Very hard decision there. Actually glad they didn't have the Lo out when I bought my Xb, saved me lots of agonizing.

Hope the dealer got them both (or all three if the rocker is still in the running) on the floor so you can compare.

im leaning away from the rocker right now.

talking with a good friend back home that i recently found out had one.
he LOVES the bike but he took it on a couple of roadtrips just in province about 2-3 hrs each way and hated it.

Right now its just the XBones and the Fatboy Lo.

hell even the heritage looks good to me, but i think the xb and th fatty are going to be my two choices in the end.

anyone have any suggestions on dealing with the dealers when buying? i plan on pretty much buying it out all at once but i also want to add some things to it.

thanks again guys

only 57, still no date for us comms guys on when we're leaving...

Buy used and peferably from a private person or used dealer. If you do buy new from HD let them know upfront your not paying the freight or mock-up fees, or whatever they call them.

well ive never bought a new vehicle ever so i never knew you could do that.

The reason i want to buy new is to get what i want, everyone around where i live sells used at pretty much new costs.

One guy is selling a 95 softail for 18grand because it has a bunch of custom stuff like a flames paintjob and a bunch of show chrome.

sorry but to me, that is not worth that much.

not to mention i want the warranty and this is my last tour so i want to go a bit all out with my own end tour gift to myself.

last tour i bought a nice watch lol

oh, not to mention i dont plan on selling anytime soon.

Johnny,
few things..
1 - look out of province .. even with shipping cost could be cheaper.
2 - Look at the US , many guys are specialized in Ontario doing that.
3 - many guys put unreasonable prices, they are idiots do not look at them, I have seen an add for 99 FXR for 15,000 for 2 years straight now ! or for a Heritage Springer 2005 for 18,000 for 2 years still and yes these are real bikes with un-real sellers .
4 - Buying used is the best way with HD as once you buy new, the MoCo will sell you many parts that will go garbage anyways (Air Filter, Stock Mufflers, and in many cases the engine heads !).
5 - Buying 08 or 07 is your best bet, which is top engine config, best tranny, and odds are the bike had the important mods done.
6 - buying 2000-2006 is also a good choice, given the engine had proper upgrades (namely cam chain tensioner) and with the right price it is a good deal.

I hate to see a good serving army memeber fall into consumerism which is the second worst enemy we are fighting after al qaeda if you ask me.

Be well my friend and if you need any help, do not hesitate to msg me in private or email, wishing you a safe return.

And more importantly...

I have made a quick search for you.. ignore the over priced ones. but I am sure you can get something really good under 15 grand and avoid paying 20+ at the dealers + 2-3 more for upgrades.

Looks like KLF is hooking you up and directing you to the right places up there but I have one more thing to add. Might want to also check out ebay. There are lots of people who buy the new bikes and end up riding and putting few miles on them. Some of the crap on ebay is overpriced or just that, crap, so be careful if you do go there.
Also, I spent some time in the Marine Corp here. Sometimes at certain exchanges you can get vehicles and I know HD is something we were able to get. You might want to look into that and see if you have the same services provided to you, since it seems your hell bent on getting new.

Good Luck and thanks for you help in theater.

Thanks KLF,

I took at alook at the one guy thats selling all the bikes.
lets just say....that dealer isn't a place i recomend.

Past experiences were bad for family members so i avoid that place. not to mention i walked in there wearing jeans a t-shirt and one of my unit hoodies and couldnt get someone to talk to me, wasn't too impressed.

Talking with my parents tonight (today there) and i guess one of the doctors at my moms hospital (she's a nurse) said that his son has a dealership somewhere maybe in alberta or something and she's going to look into it.

as well, my uncle has a friend that goes down to the states and brings bikes back up and sells them. So i may have even another route to go.

The main thing about buying used is that i do not want to take over someone elses problem and no warranty to get it fixed.
