I would go with the 07+ for the FI, 96", and 6 speed.

Carbs seem too picky to me, and dont self adjust for cold starts and other things like EFI does. EFI is rather proven now. I dont know many people that like a carb vehicles over modern EFI vehicles, other than to say they have carbs but then they gripe about getting it set up right or cleaning it.

If you ride at highway speeds, it's nice to hit the lever and actually have a 6th gear.

EFI and factory 96ci are great too. Not being a gearhead, carbs hold no attraction to me.

I also prefer a used bike thats been kept close to stock. It's cheaper, I can customize it myself and I don't have to worry that whoever worked on it before me f'd something up.

Why a Night train? What did you ride before?
Do you plane to ride solo or 2 up?
Will you go touring or just bar hopping?

How tall are you? inseam?

Not trying to be a wise *** but after not riding a while I bought what a thought I wanted and then bought again and the third time was the charm?

Spent a lot along the way so just trying to help you save some money.

Example: the neighbor had a Deuce when he was younger, No windshield looking cool. Decided to ride again and went out and bought another one.

Found out he ain't as young as he once was? Go figure needed a windshield and better suspension after spending 20K + wound up trading on something entirely different? Seen it, Done it?

By the way both bikes seem to high especially the 05, they are trading right now about 1K to 1.5K below wholsale book at the auctions. You can get an 09 for that money?

2009 HARLEY-DAVIDSON - FXSTB NIGHT TRAIN
Current Whsl Book $13,370
Units Sold 11
Avg Value $11,655
Value Range $7,800-$13,600

buy the 07, take advantage of the EFI, 96in, and six speed. then take the $2k you saved and spend it on customizing the way you would like it

carb guy here! love the slow potato idle!! both my carb bike have been ultra reliable! had i efi bike and hated it! it was expensive, surged and idled with few potatos. high pressure fuel lines rubed in the tank and ruptured nearly stranded me! loved the bike and its motor plus it had the six speed but i hated the efi. with my carb i can tune + repair my self
with out the dealer charging me a fortune for a stupid sensor or computer, etc!

Thanks for all the information. I am in Florida and unless I purchase a bike unseen and not heard or riden then I am not comfortable buying over the internet. After some research for the area I am in the bike is at the top end of the spectrum but it is at a Harley dealer so that is to be expected.

I do not mind the EFI because as a tech person I would but the equipment to be able to work on the bike myself and would more than likely upgrade with an aftermarket controller so I can turn it the way I want it.

In 02 I rode a 2002 Iron Horse chopper softtail so other than the rake there is not going to be much different. I actually want a Softtail or a nice Bagger but the wife likes the look of this one so she is the boss. I am thinking she wants it for herself LOL and is going to let me build one like I really want to do HAHA

I think the 07 is going to won out if the will haggle on the price. After looking at it again, it has a few cosmetic things that I do not care for and it will take repainting the tank and rear fender to fix that plus the Vances and Hines pipes have been scrapped up against something like a curb and they are scratched pretty good so that would take getting them powdercoated again so they will have to come down to at least 11K fort me to get it. If not then I will keep looking.

Thanks again for all the great information. Ill keep you updated and post pics when I can.
