Default Ape hanger non slip mod

I just posted this in one of the threads and thought this would help everyone out who is going to install ape's

This might not be for everyone but it worked for me and cost 75 cents.

I have a set of flyin apes that I’m installing on my lo. The flyin are not knurled. What I did was drill into the the bottom riser and placed a tension pin in each one. The pins stick up maybe 1/4 inch. Then I set the bars in place where I wanted, put the risers back together and tighten them down. By tighten them down the pins left marks where I needed to drill. Now the bars lock into place because the pins go into the holes and when you tighten the risers down the pins will keep the bars from ever slipping. I hope this makes sense. .

Makes sense to me. But, I'm not quite clear on how you installed the tension pins. I just need more clarification on how you got them into the riser. It's a good idea. One similar to how I prevent the perches from moving in my arboreal snake cages.

The Carlini 1.5" risers come with the set screws in them already. Good work!

Sounds like he just drilled into the risers part way and set them in there like a wooden dowel pin. They would just be free floating but it would keep the bars from moving. Just make sure you got them in the right place. Couple of test rides should solve that problem.

I guess I wasn't thinking of letting them float freely. It makes sense though. Thanks for clarifying that.

Overall, brilliant idea. I'll have to keep this in mind for a just-in-case situation. Thanks for sharing, Nubs!

Weird the bars don't come with knurling.
As Drew stated, my Carlini risers came with set screws. Those along with the knurling should make for a nice solid mount.

The skateboard tape you added, Nubs13 should help alot.

I saw that carlini sold the risers with set screws but I didnt want to drop another $200 on the project and I like the stock risers look. The pins stick just far enough out of the risers that will prevent them from slipping when the riser is tighten down.
I should have my ape install this weekend. I'll post more pics when its all done.

Looks like a good idea. My only issue would be if you decide to move the bars in the future, wouldn't you eventually wind up with a groove in the bars.
