Default Oil coming from top of engine

It started with a little film that collected dirt. It's been washed since, and in time has turned into this. I'm hoping it's something minor like tightening a few bolts. I've also noticed a "sewing machine" sound, especially when decelerating, but only through a relatively small span of revs. Don't know if it's related to the oil (and yes there is oil in the oil tank) or not.

It's my 2006 FLSTCI with 44 K miles.

Thanks in advance...

Looks like your head gasket needs to be replaced. Can you load pictures that are any clearer or larger? that will help determine what the issue is.

Yup, looks like a leaky head gasket which is between the head and the lower rocker box.

Thanks Drew. Wonder what kind of repair bill we talkin' about? I put on all my own chrome do-dads but I am not a wrench.

That sounds more like the lower rocker box gasket, the head gasket is between the jug and the head.

Thanks. I just got off the phone with my HD mechanic and that's what he said. I was using the wrong term.

He gave an estimate of $250-275 parts and labor for replacing the front gasket alone, but suggested I have them change the rear gasket also for an additional $75. He said occasionally they find peeling chrome or pitting on the sealing surface of the rocker riser, and if so, that part costs $150. All parts in stock.

Take it in Tuesday, work on it Wednesday, pick up Thursday. Better now during Spring showers than in the Summer.
