Default Deuce tank gutting

I have a custom paint set that I want install. How hard is it to take everything in the tank out and transfer it to the new one? I have a manual and it looks like its gonna be a pain. Anyone done this that has some advice? I have had the tank off many times but I have never gutted one.

not hard, make sure you use a new gasket for the top, and I would get new plastic lines as well. its a little tricky getting the sending unit in place so be patient, just got to find the right twist

New gaskets, clamps, and plastic lines, ok. Should I get a new check valve for the new tank and just leave the other screwed into the old tank?

You will also need new screws when you re-install the top plate. The screws have a teflon collar at the top that can only be compressed once.

Be sure to do the job in a well ventilated area.

I had to replace the tank on my Duece several years ago.

What I vaguely remember is what a bitch it was to figure out the hinging and twisting necessary to get the fuel pump/filter/sending unit assembly out of the tank.

Once you get it out and can see how it all works it's really pretty simple - but the first time it's gonna be a bitch unless you get really lucky. It's been so long since I did mine that if I had to do it again today I'd probably struggle a bit.

Patience is mandatory!
