At any rate I would be concerned about pieces of debris (broken cage) roaming around in the crankcase. Just one small piece can block an oil passage, particularly the oil passage in the crank to the rod journal.
You are correct in that, I would worry about that too.

My 2000 Road King has done the same thing. When I opened my cam chest 7 of the 9 ball bearings fell into the drain pan. I am now in the process of buying parts for the rebuild.
