Ok so Im going to record a few runs today 1. idling 2. low speed 3. cruising through the gears 4. getting on it a lil (below 80% throttle). when i upload them, how do I use multiple runs to create one good map?

oh i forgot also, there are no base maps to load that are close to my bike...the only one close says the automatic compression release is off. I have the new blackline with 103" so it has ACR right?

The primary map is for the Volumetric Efficiency (VE). There is a Smart Tuning mode, where it learns how efficient your engine is. It does that by setting the AFR to 14.6 and figuring out how much fuel it needs based on how much air it's getting. It takes several runs since it can't detect a wide range of changes at a time. Once the cells are within 5% then you are good.

Smart Tuning figures out how efficient the engine is based on an AFR of 14.6. It takes several runs before it gets within 5%. You can Generate a map based off of several runs all at once.

After you get the VE map within 5%, then you can start tweaking the AFR map and there are a couple good ones in that thread.

Just to be clear, when you are in Smart Tuning data gathering mode, you are running an AFR of 14.6 so that the O2 sensors are working on all the cells. In normal mode, I only have 14.6 in the range where I'm cruising, for best gas mileage.

I think all the new 103s have the ACR. This is a simple thing to turn on in your map. If you can't find it, I'll start mine up and take a look.

Ok, I finally made some progress. Got my first run in and the base map is corrected for my next record session. I have tons of decel pop so I took the values up two clicks on the "decel enleanment" option. I saw something about changing the throttle response in the manual but cant find it in the tuning section. Did you play with that?

I don't believe that you are trying to get it leaner... you need to get it richer. By your description of the function, it sounds like decel enleanment needs to be decel enrichment... but I've never used one of these.

You can also get good help with tuning at the harley tech forums.

I had a bit of decel pop but I didn't mess with the 'decel enleanment'.

Idle is about 30kPa, so the AFR changes below that are in the decel zone. I gathered from that thread that this is where/how they get rid of decel popping. (Some make it richer, others make it leaner.)

I have attached the current version of my AFR map. You can see it is richer below the 30kPa zone. The red parts are at 14.6, and are in closed loop.

Ok, Im still doing the smart tune recording part. I am almost dialed in there, after one more ride all of my values should be within .5 like recommended. After that I can adjust my target AFR (even though I have not figured that out yet) and then my timing. Im using the default 14.6 for the smart tune. Maybe the pop will go away after those two steps.

Carbs aren't easy to get a good tune either, unless you know what you are doing.

To get as good a tune with a carb as the SEPST, you'd need to buy an A/F meter and you'd have to write down all the data as you are making your runs. With the SEPST, it gathers all the data so you can see exactly what your engine is doing; from spark advance and engine temperature, to the knock sensor (could activate if too lean), RPM, etc. There is no comparison, and I like being able to recreate the run in the simulator.

I tend to smell like gas when I tune a carb, too. Not my favorite aroma.

Of course, I'd need a carb bike for the post-Apocalyptic world after the EMP hits ...
