Default 2012 idle rpm?

I have recently bought a 2012 fatboy lo. It already had stage one done with a screaming eagle tuner.the idle rpm is around 1000 to 1050. Is this normal? It seams awfully high to me. My other bike was much lower and it was fuel injected also.any information would be appreciated.

I don't have my service manual in front of me and I'm guessing you don't have one. A phone call to your dealer would probably clear this up in about 10 seconds.

the 96", as well as a few other fuel injected engines idle between 950 and 1050.. i'd imagine the 103" does the same

I have an 07 Softail Custom. I was told the newer engines have to idle higher due to the oil pump not operating correctly below about 1000 rpm.

Thats normal. As already posted the oil pressure drops off and will cause premature wear and heat at lower RPMs.

I just dropped my 12 Softail Deluxe off at the dealer for some work..My idle is at 1000 as well, and I asked him to lower it. I was having a stage 1 kit put on and I figured as long as they were going to be hooked up to a computer it would be easy to lower it to around 900 or even 850. ...My request was flatly denied stating the same reason other posters here did. The last Harley I owned was a 63, and the idle was really low(carburetor) so I could get the "potato" sound we all love. The service tech at Harley told me. "fergeddaboudit". Those days are gone. Those motors were built to withstand that kind of abuse. The new ones aren't!

Geez!!
