My wife's 2012 Heritage idles around 1k-1200rpm with stock pipes. Sounds normal to me.

Around 1000 rpm for me as well. Andrews 37 cams helped to give it a semblance of the potato idle. A little fast, but it's there now.

Agree with above answers,, around 1000 is normal..

I've also heard since 07, that much lower Idle rpms could cause oil flow issues.

~1K's the norm so you're in the window, but there are aftermarket tuners out which allow idle adjustments. Wouldn't recommend much lower...for reasons others indicated.

Then why does the engine idle slow down when it starts getting hot in order to cool the engine?

I just wish I could get my 2012 Heritage to idle less 1200 rpms. I have to ride the clutch and brake in slow traffic to keep from rear-ending traffic in front of me.

If your talking the Eitms mode it does not slow down. It drops a cylinder and picks up rpm to maintain 1k.

950-1000 is normal for my bike. Most of the time anyways. I've had long recurring issues with the idle dropping down to as low as 700. I thought I had them fixed when I replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor and Idle air control as well as a new AC with breathers that vented straight to the atmosphere but the problem has come back. Not going quite as low as 700 more like 800-900 but still there. Runs like a top when I get going again.

Are you sure. I own a 2006 and didn't think that was available on this year. In the idle table on the super tuner, it shows the idle drop at higher temps and it goes under 1k. I forget how low because it's been a while, but 750-800 maybe?

And besides, dropping a cylinder wouldn't cut the RPMs in half. It would still be idling at the same RPM, just with one less cylinder.

i have a 103 in my breakout. when i bought it, idle was around 950 to 1050. after my stage 1, it was 1000 to 1200 depending on if it was warmed up. not sure if that's normal or not, but that's what it is.
