I'm new here so please go easy on me. I'm trying to identify a bike. From a distance it looks like a Road King with the hard bags and big forks. Up close your realize it's a softail with solid wheels. The cylinders are powder coated with a diamond cut on the edges. It has a screaming eagle air filter cover but I don't know if it's a performance shop motor. I also don't know the displacement or how to figure it out short of measuring a piston.

The VIN is from some aftermarket frame maker. It goes 4EMEL2E281Nxxxxxx. Anyone know who made that frame? The engine serial is BKLX9287xx. How can I find the year of manufacture and displacement for that motor? It has a stretch tank, Fatboy tins and wheels and some kind of rig for hard bags. Any idea where those parts would come from? Was this a Fatboy that got put onto a new frame? Can anyone help?

How about some pics. Tons of aftermarket makers out there. Some can be identified by style.

It's either a Road King or a Heritage...I would say it's indeed a road king based on the front fender, but I could be wrong

It is a custom. Based on a harritage with road king bags and front fender but who makes it I dont know. It has an oil tank so it is in the softail frame style.

I might buy it. My buddy has three Harleys and wants to sell one. I rebuild old bikes, but he doesn't have much mechanical skill so he asked me to clean it up and sell it for him. I haven't been on a Harley since I rode a 1975 SuperGlide as a kid. I've been riding Mortie's frankenbike around town for a couple of days getting it limbered up and checking things out. Let me say this. It is way more comfortable than my Ducati so I might be making a bid.

What is the purpose of identifying it ...? Is it for sale and you are thinking about buying it ...?

What can the seller / owner tell you about it ...?

Late model Harley Davidson VINs begin with 1HD1 ...

The motor is an EVO-type motor ... so probably 1990s vintage or later aftermarket motor ... not familiar with any of the VIN / Serial info ...

The front fender is Heritage ... fork appears to be 2" - 4" over stock ... Fat Boy wheels ... Road King / Electra Glide type bags ...

Cycle Visions out of San Diego CA makes a system to mount the Touring hard bags on HD Softails ... or could be custom bracket fabrication ...

Not a bad looking bike from what you threw up there ... a little gaudy for my taste, but pretty nice nonetheless ...

Well Mortie wants me to sell it for him. He's in his 70s and not too computer literate. But right now the bike is sitting in my garage and we are getting to know each other. I like it and I might buy it. Whether I buy it from him or sell it for him I need to know what we have. Mort bought it about 10 years ago and has put a total of 150 miles on it since he bought it. It's blingy as hell but it's growing on me.

Ask Mortie to have a look at the title and registration ... don't know the Kansas law, but either the maker of the frame or the motor would have provided a Manufacturers Statement of Origin which would be used to title it.

Alternatively, if it is built by a custom manufacturer the title would indicate that, as well ... in either event, the title and / or registration should indicate motor displacement ... (if a 'stock' Evo it will be 80" / 1340cc) ...

Assuming the motor is NOT a HD 'crate' motor, it appear to be an aftermarket 'knock off' maybe a Delkron or something ... does / did S&S make Evo crate motor ...? HD parts and aftermarket should be compatible with it if repairs or upgrades need to be made ....

If he's only put 150 miles on the bike in 10 years, I'm a little surprised the carb is not totally fouled up ... unless it was 'preserved' before stowage by removing all fuel ...

If you like it and can arrive at a price that is fair to both you and him ... go for it ...!

Let us know what you find out about the identity ...
