Default Advice on motorcycle purchase

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new(pre-owned) bike. Probably buying at the end of winter. I am currently riding a '95 evo fx springer. As much as I love it, I think it's time for something else. I have decided to go with a TC. Most likely a Fatboy. My budget is around 12k, so a TC103 is out, I can get a TC88 and possibly squeek into a TC96 for a little bit more. Do I get much more bike with a TC96 as opposed to a TC88? What about fuel injection. I've always owned carbed bikes.

I don't ride much, probably <2k/year. I live in MN, so don't have to worry about changing altitudes. But cold weather, yes. I also do ZERO of my own maintenance (aside from oil changes).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, Dave

ChopperExchange is a good site to look. Lots of bikes in all price ranges. Good Luck!

I'd def recommend a fuel injected bike. Less mess, especially since you don't do your own maintenance.

+1 on a fuel injected bike given your situation. You should be able to find a very good ride for $12k. Just make sure you shop around.

I'm also from MN and bought my Fatboy last November from Chicago Harley. Actually found the bike on Cycletrader. The bike is a 2002 Fatboy with 13000 miles. This bike is in great shape and came with extras like Corbin seat, quick detach windshield, Lindby crash bar, and V&H long shots. Price: $7495. Paid another $350 for shipping from Chicago right to my garage. Comparable bikes in my area were selling for anywhere from $9000-$11000.

Go to Ebay Motors: search for Harley. Set for buy it now. When list comes out select nearest to farthest, review, then set it for price, lowest to highest. For 12K there will be a good selection of good mileage Softails and dyna's and even some FL's. Ebay will give you a good overview of what is avail out there. Also if you keep your bikes for a long time, Google Euhardy's Salvage from New London, Wi. They have many rebuilt, low mile branded title bikes avail. They are close to where you live. An example of 1 they have is a clean title, 2005 E/Glide Classic, loaded up with 22K miles on it for $10k. It is a buyers market in late fall and winter, as you are planning on waiting. Bikes will bring more $'s to the seller in spring.

I drool over some of the customs on E-Bay all the time. It is a buyers market. Take your time. Good luck.
