Deuce owners, a question about changing the rear fender

Deuce owners, a question about changing the rear fender
Hey guys,
I have a question for any fellow Deuce owners who have already changed out the stock the rear fender for an aftermarket fender.
When you installed the aftermarket rear fender did you have to change your seat and replace or modify the fender struts too?
I was planning on a custom paint job for my bike this winter which was to include an aftermarket rear fender. The other day when I stopped at a local paint shop to talk about my ideas for the paint job, they told me that changing the rear fender would not be easy. They said that if I wanted to use an aftermarket rear fender on the Deuce I would have to change the struts or cut my struts down (then have them re-chromed or painted) and have a custom seat made or else cut off the frame horns and use a self-supporting rear fender and also have a custom seat made. They told me that the Deuce was only designed to use the original stock fender and changing it causes other problems. They suggested keeping the stock rear fender but modifying it by moving the tail light to a side mount tag holder and filling in the hole in the rear fender. The problem with this option is the stock rear fender doesn’t have the length I need for the planned mods I wanted. I was planning on having shapes cut into the fender and installing the flush mount LED lights under the fender as part of the custom paint theme I’m working on. I need some space for this to work and the stock fender just doesn’t have much space to work with.
Anyone else run into this problem? If so, what did you do? I’m not sure if I will paint it this winter if I have to modify or replace the struts and have a custom seat made on top of what I’ll be spending on the new aftermarket rear fender and custom paint. I didn’t think this would be such a major project.

Sounds like you need to check out www.heartlandbiker.com
I installed the seat, fender strut combo in the 180/200.
You will have to commit to cutting you rear fender horns
off though. Very easy to do however. Kit comes with a
template and you follow it with a saws all. Ground it down
nice and smooth then primed and painted where I made the
cut.Then you tuck an 18 x 5.5 of your choice and you're
in business.

Crazy,
You have a smokin lookin scoot there ! Do you know the part number for that fender on your bike. What size tire do you have on it? Would that fender look OK with a 180mm rear tire or would there be to much clearance and look weird?
Thanks,
da boogieman

I just did a fender change on 2000 Night Train, I replace stock fender with Milwaukee Iron short slim (strutless), Just cut the internal struts down to the welds, the seat was another issue. I'm currently making my own seat pan and custom seat, since no one makes a seat that fits on the fender. I post pics once Its completed.

Take your fender off and measure between the struts. Then buy a fender blank that width and cut your designs in it.I went with a strutless rear fender and a 180 tire. Also Hey Crazy, did you do the cams?

Thanks for the reply and the link to the website. I checked it out and it might be an option for me but probably not this year. I don't think I will have enough money this winter to buy their kit and pay for the custom paint job and LED lights too. If I go this route I will most likely have to wait until next year.
