Default Polishing front fork lowers

I decided to give it a shot at polishing my front fork lowers instead of spending the bucks on chromed lowers. So far so good. I tried it out on a small area first to see the result and to find out how hard it is to do. I like the result so far and it is actually pretty easy to do. Does take some time and work though But what the h... Here in Denmark it's still freezing and I probably wont get the bike out until the end of March or start April so I have plenty of time

Yep, polished lowers is the way to go. Use paint stripper first to get rid of the clear coat. Makes it mush easier then sanding through it.

Use paint stripper first then start with 200~400 grit (cant remember the exact one I started with) working to 2000, then polish.

Yea, I used Citrus Strip and it worked great. To the person asking about how to do them and what to use, do a forum search, there is a ton of info on polishing the lowers.

Yup, wet and dry sandpaper is the way to go. I went with 240, 400, 600, 1000, 1200, then some very fine steel wool and after this alu polishing paste on a drill mounted cotton roll. And for the final finish chrome polish paste and a cloth.

ok, thanks. I guess I'm still too new here. I've never heard about polishing the lowers.

IMO, polished lowers look better than chrome. It has a different shine that looks deeper and definitely "old school". When people see both of my bikes together, one chromed and one polished, the one with the polished lowers always gets the comments. "those look cool, what did you do to them"?

Well, if I had the time and/or money...I would certainly rather have my lowers in chrome. You can only really tell when the sun hits directly on them. On cloudy days, they look chromed and really nice.
