Default 1998 Fatboy Winter Rebuild * New Photos*

Tear down is almost complete and parts are on the way. Main purpose of project was to repaint the tins as the bike was purchased used in 2011 with multiple small scratches and dents. The bike also needs some maintenance as the tires and alot of the other rubber components showed their age. Engine mods will wait until next winter. I have broke down the plans below.

Paint- Fenders and tank gloss black w/ HD tank badge (cant decide on custom paint or straight black)
Powdercoat- Oil Tank gloss black (chrome was flaking and rusting)
Chrome- Stock wheels, pulley, rotors, fork lowers
Tires- Metzeller 880 Stock size Frt and 140 Rear
Accesories-rear strut mount turn signals, brake pads, braided fuel and oil lines, chrome fender hardware, seat (probably c&c 2 up)

Thumbs up Another one saved

Hey Quad, looks like a great project and she deserves the love. I love the FB and almost got myself an original grey one back in 1990 so keep us posted with pix and progress bro.

Very cool, I'll look forward to seeing your bike progress. So, did you decide to have some fun with the paint & go custom? Black's a great base to start with, but it can be much more exciting to splash some color(s) on as well.

Make it yours

Enjoy!

I got my 97 tore down also. I pull the wheels off every winter and send them out for balancing and bearing checks. Decided to put new intake gaskets on this winter, replace all gas lines, vacuum hoses and send the carb out for a rebuild. The only good thing about Michigan winters is it gives you a lot of time to work on your bike lol..

Nice scoot, but I want your shop!! Nice place to spend some time I bet. I tried to convince the old lady to agree on having my bike in the house during winter, but.... Friends, some battles are more important than others. Holy crap, having your scoot indoors where it's warm and you can tinker for a few months without having to take her down 'cause you're going to ride... one day. The March thaw is a comin'.

Thanks aaamax, just bought the house at the beginning of december. Went from a single car garage to a 3 car garage. Ive been filling it up with tools ever since. Luckily the fiance is very understanding of my Harley addiction.
