Lean angle on a softail has nothing to do with floor boards. Mine will scrap and fold before I grind hard parts That's what they are supposed to do. Dyna's sit higher and have a better lean angle. I have owned both and really never worried about it.

While you could argue the Dyna has a better suspension, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a better ride...
I have both a Dyna and a Softail and I love the vibration of a Dyna, and how smooths out as the RPM's climb. Once I get going, it begins smooth out, and by the time I'm at 2400 RPM's it's smooth as silk. I think what the OP was talking about as far as the suspension/better ride was that a Dyna handles better than a softail. Having both, I'd have to say that's true.

When you scrape the exhaust pipe and left frame behind the primary during turns, you have found your lean angles.

You could try forward controls (although the heel of your boot might scrape). Then if you need a little more, there are footpeg raisers like these:
